ice storm 2009

I hope all of you who are affected by this storm are alright.  Hardly anyone has power, including us.  Thankfully, my father had invested in a generator which is keeping us warm and with limited power.  We are so thankful to God for keeping us safe thus far!  We hope and pray you all are staying safe and warm.

This has been quite an experience!  Outside, it sounded like a war zone last night with limbs and trees breaking and falling every 5-10 seconds or so, sounding like gunshots.  We wondered if there would be any trees left this morning!  At times it sounded as if they would fall right onto the house.  One tree did fall against the back corner of our house but I’m not sure it did much damage.  Another limb badly dented my parents’ car trunk lid.

“19,600 out of 22,500 of Paducah Power’s customers remain without power. That is because 6 of their 9 substations are down.  They also have several of their transmission lines down. Bottom line, they cannot guarantee when they will able to get power restored.” (as of last night)

Here are a few pictures for those of you who don’t have the same views from your windows!

  1. wow! And I thought that only happened to us northerners:)

    Thank God for His protection!

Hope it will be warmer next week…we’ll be down to see everyone then:) We will have to hook up while we’re down your way.

  2. I hope you all get power back soon. I remember the Christmas of 2006, well the first part of December, We had a bad ice storm. I had come home from the hospital that day from having Laura and our power went out. We were out for 3 or 4 days. It was a very stressful time for me. Hope you all are doing well!!!!

  3. Stephanie, that must have been really challenging with a new baby! I’m sure there are some interesting “baby” stories we’ll hear of later on around here, too.

Gina…did I understand you correctly…you’re coming this direction next week? Are you going to Houston or just visiting friends? Can’t wait to see you!!
